    Jordan

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is more than just falafel and the ancient rose city of Petra. With this country’s rich history and promising future, anyone can find something to enjoy in Jordan.
For those looking for ancient history, Petra is just one of a number of stops offering a step back in time. The desert is dotted with crusader castles, ruined Roman cities, and citadels. If you plan a trip to Petra, the park typically opens at 6:00 a.m. and the earlier you get there, the better.
Jordan also has several incredible Biblical sites, including the river where Jesus was purportedly baptized and Mt. Nebo, where it is believed that Moses stood and looked out on the Promised Land.
When visiting any of the religious destinations, and as a general tip throughout your visit to the Middle East, women should dress modestly. Queen Rania may prove that you don’t have to wear the hijab to fit in, but it is respectful and smart to dress modestly even in the hottest weather.
This country also packs a surprising amount of natural wonders. From the crystal blue waters of Aqaba and the natural water slides at Wadi Mujib to the wildlife-covered mountains of the Dana Nature Reserve and the Dead Sea, there is much more than sand in this desert.
When going to the Dead Sea, leave your floating devices and sunscreen at home, and women, do not shave your legs just hours before entering the water. No matter who you want to impress, the pain is not worth it.
As far as getting around, taxis and buses are usually your best bet. Your first taxi ride in Jordan may be a bit terrifying: drivers mainly navigate the streets with one hand on the wheel and the other on the horn, but they’ll get you where you’re going.
Things that you will want to bring along for this trip are: sunscreen, bug spray, and comfortable shoes. Always carry water and your passport with you. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper: If the incessant car honking doesn’t wake you up, the 4:00 a.m. call to prayer certainly will.
Although Jordan has some rough characters like Syria and Iraq for neighbors, it is probably the safest country in the region, and with all it has to offer, it’s sure not to disappoint even the pickiest tourist.

    Fall Back To The 80′s

    August 19th, 2009

I am getting anxious for fall. The fashion, clothing, textures, and the SHOES!!! It is so fun. Mostly, I love fall for the makeup. Summer time is very low maintenance in terms of makeup. Come fall, it is really time (and acceptable) to pour on the products. Just as you begin to introduce and add back more layers to your wardrobe, you can begin to do the same with your makeup. Skip the tinted moisturizer and go for a foundation. Instead of using a gel blush or bronzer, try powders or creams that have a richer texture and are more pigmented. And, of course – go bold, or stay home. Need some inspiration? Look to Taylor Momsen. She is right on trend for the season’s bold colors in not only her clothing, but also her makeup. It is very reminiscent of the 80′s boldness and I love it!

What are your must haves for fall?

-A Good Lipstick. Nars makes the best. Choose your favorite shade. The brighter the better!!!

-Dark Eyeliner. Try Stila’s options because they are easy to use and will give you that perfect smoky look that Taylor has on. Their kajal liner in onyx is a fan favorite. If you prefer a gel formula, try the smudge pot!

-Lots of Mascara. Pick the formula that you like, and do not be afraid to apply a few coats!

    The Best Hairspray.

    July 9th, 2009

elnett-hairsprayI have asked several hairstylists what hairspray they prefer because from time to time as a makeup artist I need hairspray. What do they all seem to prefer? Loreal’s Elnett hairspray. And, I’ll admit, after using it once or twice I realized exactly why everyone loves it so much – it is FANTASTIC. The hairspray holds your hair without leaving a sticky, unpleasant residue. Even better, one can lasts forever!

    For the Aspiring Sun Goddess.

    June 30th, 2009

nars-bronzerWhen I go to the beach I shield my face any way possible. Usually I combine sunscreen with other methods – a book covering my face, a hat, or even a shirt over my face. Why the dual methods? I am afraid of even the smallest wrinkle or sun spot. Unfortunately, I often leave the beach with a small problem. The skin on my body is a little bit tanner (or a lot) than my face. I obviously do not shield my body like my face. For some reason, I feel like the skin on my body is more durable.

To combat this problem when I go out, I take advantage of the bronzers on the market.

    My favorite are the following:

Stila sun spf 15: This has a wonderful velvety texture. When I put it on my skin, it gives it a nice glow.

Nars Bronzer in Laguna: It is nice because there is no orange hint to it.

Fresh High Noon Liquid Bronzer: Mix this with your foundation. It has antioxidants in it as well. It will give you a nice, healthy glow.
